Welcome back!
We have had a great week settling back to school life. The children shared their stories about their holiday week, mostly highlighted with their excitement when they celebrated Shrove Tuesday with oodles of pancakes.
Dazzle Day was a great success. The children began their day be being storytellers, retelling the story of 'Jack and the Flum Flum Tree'. We then looked closely at the patchwork sack that Granny gave to Jack and his Crew. The children created their own patchwork design using a variety of colours and patterns. We then moved onto making a patchwork picture using cut out paper shapes. Following this, the children worked with a range of materials, attached them to a big piece of material then practised their sewing skills. They sewed a piece of felt onto another piece of material showing great skill to produce a running stitch. After this the children helped me with the sewing machine to sew the two pieces together. Photos of our finished patchwork sacks will be added to the Art Gallery very soon!
In maths we have been learning how to tell the time. Throughout the day we have stopped and checked the clock to work out the time. Please help your child by encouraging them to try to tell the time on an analogue clock. Talk about the two hands and start with o'clock then move on to half past then quarter past and quarter to. To challenge your child ask them questions. e.g.
What time will it be in ten minutes?
How many minutes in an hour?
How many minutes until _____ ?
